Early indications here at the CKC office are that manufacturers have been surprisingly busy over the winter, refurbishing existing demonstrators, building new ones, and developing brand new cars. What’s more, a rash of brand new manufacturers will be showing us some new cars over the coming months. It’s exciting times in the kit car scene at the moment.
And it should come as no surprise that many of these companies will be bringing their cars to the European Kit and Sports Car Show at Detling over the weekend of May 21st and 22nd. Traditionally the show season opener, this year Detling moves to this later date to take advantage of a greater number of new car launches and hopefully some milder weather that will encourage more people to camp overnight and give the Kent based show a different atmosphere. Another big advantage will be the increased numbers of cars from the clubs, which form such a vital part of the event, with a spectacular display in the grounds around Detling’s neat exhibition halls.
Custom cars and hot rods will play a part out here, with a special display by the local Invicta Roadsters Club and British Hot Rod Association. The work that goes into these cars is extraordinary and the passion for unique creations is something we obviously all share.
But it’s inevitably inside, in the main hall where much of the interest lies. All new cars can be seen from buggy manufacturer ATV Buggies, while Dutch manufacturer Faroux Sports Cars will be launching a new car, for which we currently have no details!
Existing companies with new or revised demonstrators will include DJ Sportscars with a freshened up 427 demonstrator. MK Sportscars always seems to have a new Indy demo car on its stand. New owner of the Fury is local manufacturer Fury Sports Cars, so Detling’s an excellent chance to see what the company has planned for this ever popular kit car. Sammio Motor Car Company will have its Spyder on show, while Total Headturners will no doubt have a fascinating selection of pre-owned exotica which you can buy on the day. Always worth a look!
Of course, we’ll be there, complete with our MEV Exocet project car which, with a bit of luck, will be on the road by then. So if you’re thinking of an Exocet build and want to see ours, then get along to the show and we’ll happily show you around it. As you’d expect, elsewhere on the stand we’ll have the brand new June issue, all our back issues, guides, books and DVDs, plus the very latest CKC Guide To Track Days to help those of you considering venturing trackside for the first time.
So Detling looks like being a corker. We look forward to seeing you there.
See you there.
