The CKC Showdown is the name for a brand new event we’re organising for May 17th. And although this piece forms part of our show previews section, it’s important to point out that this isn’t a show – while we sponsor some shows throughout the year, we don’t organise any. Instead, this is intended to be a relaxed, informal and fun day out in your kit car. You can either sit back and watch others take their cars up the strip, or you can get in on the action yourself.

The entry fee is £10, but for £20 extra you can take your car up the quarter mile as many as times as you can. To do that, you’ll need to bring a crash helmet if you’re in an open-top car (they’re not available to hire at the venue), show your driver’s licence and have covered arms when you’re driving. Your car will also undergo a basic safety check. It’s not necessary to book in advance – just rock up on the day and get stuck in!

We’ve attended one of these events at Shakespeare County Raceway before, and they’re good, family oriented fun. If your club can guarantee five or more cars, get in touch with us before the event (phone and e-mail details in the panel bottom right) and we’ll get a trophy made for the fastest car in your club. We’ll try to organise some other awards for the day too.

Stent and Wilkins are also anticipating a dramatic head to head in their £500 Challenge cars, so it’s worth coming if only to have a laugh at their expense.
